" Every lesson, every day"
At King Edward VI High School, we strongly believe that excellent school attendance is the single most important factor in a child’s academic success and personal well-being. A student’s presence in every lesson, every day, ensures they have the best possible chance to learn, develop, and achieve their full potential.
The school is open from 7.00am. Pupils should be on site by 8.30am.
Pupils finish at 3.10pm each day.
The school site closes by 5.45pm.
The Importance of Good Attendance
Good attendance is crucial because it:
-
Promotes Academic Success: Every school day counts. Missing even a few days can lead to gaps in a child's knowledge, making it harder for them to keep up with their peers. Consistent attendance allows students to build on prior learning, participate in class discussions, and receive vital feedback from their teachers.
-
Builds Social Skills and Friendships: School is about more than just lessons. Being in school every day helps children develop social skills, build lasting friendships, and feel a strong sense of belonging within our school community.
-
Ensures Well-being and Safety: Attending school regularly allows our pastoral and safeguarding teams to monitor your child's well-being. We can quickly identify any concerns and provide the necessary support, ensuring your child is safe and happy.
-
Fosters a Positive Work Ethic: Arriving on time and attending school consistently helps instil a sense of routine, responsibility, and discipline—essential skills for success in later life and the world of work.
Our Commitment to Attendance
We understand that children can be unwell. However, we ask parents and carers to help us by:
-
Reporting Absences: If your child is unable to attend school for any reason, you must contact the school office as early as possible on the first day of absence.
-
Avoiding Unauthorised Leave: We ask that you do not take your child out of school for holidays or non-essential appointments during term time. Any such leave can only be authorised by the Headteacher in exceptional circumstances.
-
Communicating with Us: If you are experiencing any difficulties with your child's attendance, please contact us. Our Attendance Consultant is here to work with you to provide support and overcome any barriers.
We work in partnership with our families to achieve excellent attendance for all. Remember, every day in school is a day for your child to learn, grow, and "Be the best YOU can be."
You can monitor your child's attendance in real-time by logging in to our Go4Schools parent portal.
