About
Governors
A Dedicated Team of Volunteers
The Governing Body at King Edward VI High School plays a crucial role in the strategic leadership and oversight of our school. Comprising a dedicated team of volunteers from diverse backgrounds, our Governors bring a wealth of experience, skills, and perspectives, all united by a shared commitment to the success and well-being of every student.
Governors act as a critical friend to the Headteacher and the senior leadership team. Their work is primarily strategic, focusing on the long-term direction and development of the school, rather than day-to-day management.
The core functions of our Governing Body are:
-
Ensuring Clarity of Vision, Ethos, and Strategic Direction:
The Governors are responsible for defining the school's vision, values, and ambitious goals. They set the strategic framework for the school, ensuring that our ethos, including our motto "Be the best YOU can be," is at the heart of everything we do. This involves planning for the school's future, considering its place within the wider community, and adapting to the evolving educational landscape.
-
Holding the Headteacher to Account for the Educational Performance of the School and its Pupils, and the Performance Management of Staff:
Governors rigorously monitor and evaluate the school's performance. This includes scrutinising academic outcomes, the quality of teaching and learning, and the progress of all pupils. They challenge and support the Headteacher to ensure that high standards are maintained and that effective strategies are in place for continuous improvement. They also oversee the Headteacher's performance management, ensuring strong leadership at the school's helm.
-
Overseeing the Financial Performance of the School and Making Sure its Money is Well Spent:
The Governing Body has a crucial role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of King Edward VI High School. They oversee the budget, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently and effectively to achieve the school's strategic priorities, provide the best possible education, and offer excellent value for money. They ensure robust financial controls and accountability are in place.
Our Commitment and Working Practices
Governors meet regularly throughout the academic year, both as a full Governing Body and in dedicated committees that focus on specific areas such as curriculum and standards, finance, resources, and pupil welfare. They visit the school, attend events, and engage with staff, students, and parents to gain a deep understanding of school life.

Above all, our Governors are passionate advocates for our students and school community. They ensure that King Edward VI High School remains a place where every child is safe, happy, and empowered to achieve their full potential within our nurturing family environment.
