Student Life
Student Voice
Empowering our students
At King Edward VI High School, we believe that our students are at the very heart of our school community, and their perspectives, ideas, and feedback are invaluable. Empowering our students to have a say in their education and school life is fundamental to our ethos, helping them to develop into confident, responsible individuals who truly embody our motto: "Be the best YOU can be."
Where every student feels heard, respected
We are committed to fostering a culture where every student feels heard, respected, and knows that their opinions can make a real difference. We achieve this through various channels:
Formal Feedback through Quality Assurance
We actively seek and value student feedback as an integral part of our ongoing Quality Assurance processes. This includes:

-
Student Surveys: Regular surveys gather insights on teaching and learning, school environment, well-being provision, and extra-curricular activities.
-
Focus Groups: Specific groups of students are invited to discuss particular topics in depth, providing nuanced feedback that helps shape school policies and practices.
-
Curriculum Reviews: Students contribute to discussions about the curriculum, offering perspectives on how subjects are taught and how content can be made more engaging and relevant.

This systematic approach ensures that student perspectives directly inform our strategic planning and continuous improvement efforts.
The School Council: A Platform for Change
Our vibrant School Council serves as a formal and democratic platform for student representation. Comprising elected representatives from each year group, the School Council meets regularly to discuss ideas, raise concerns, and propose initiatives that reflect the interests of the wider student body.

The School Council plays a key role in:

-
Representing Views: Acting as a vital link between students and school leadership.
-
Driving Improvements: Working on projects that enhance the school environment, student welfare, and learning experience.
-
Developing Leadership Skills: Providing students with valuable experience in debate, negotiation, and project management.

Their contributions have led to tangible improvements across the school, demonstrating the real impact of student leadership.
Student Leadership Roles
Beyond formal structures, we provide numerous opportunities for pupils to take on meaningful leadership roles across the school. These roles not only empower students but also allow them to positively influence their peers and contribute actively to school life.
Examples include:
-
Hear4U Peer Mentoring Team: A standout example of student leadership, our Hear4U Peer Mentoring team consists of older students who are specially trained to support younger pupils. They provide a listening ear and guidance on issues such as friendships, homework anxiety, and general well-being, fostering a compassionate and supportive environment from within the student body.
-
Prefects and Head Students: Older students take on significant responsibilities, acting as role models, assisting staff, and contributing to the smooth running of the school.
-
Ambassadors: Students represent the school at various events and in specific subject areas.
