French
At King Edward VI High School, we believe that learning a modern foreign language is a rewarding and enriching experience. Our French curriculum is designed to not only teach students a new language but also to foster a deep appreciation for other cultures and traditions. We aim to develop confident and enthusiastic French speakers, readers, writers, and listeners, equipping them with the skills to become resilient, independent learners.

Key Stage 3
Our Key Stage 3 curriculum focuses on building a strong foundation in the four key skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students are regularly assessed to track their progress, and we use tools such as sentence builders and knowledge organisers to help them become proficient in core vocabulary and grammar. Lessons are made engaging through the use of stimulating materials, including songs, films, and authentic texts, which also help to build students’ cultural capital.

GCSE
Students are encouraged to continue their language learning at GCSE. We offer the AQA French GCSE course, which starts in Year 10. This course builds on the skills developed in Key Stage 3 and prepares students for external examinations. We are proud to provide extra support for our students through weekly after-school sessions and targeted interventions to help them achieve their best.
