Geography

At King Edward VI High School, we believe that geography provides a crucial foundation for understanding the world we live in. Our curriculum is designed to be challenging, motivating, and highly engaging, fostering a love for the subject and equipping students with essential knowledge and skills. We aim to show students how human and physical processes shape our planet and to help them become informed global citizens.

Key Stage 3

Our Key Stage 3 curriculum follows the National Curriculum and provides a broad introduction to both human and physical geography. Students will develop their geographical skills by studying a range of topics, including natural hazards, development, map skills, population dynamics, and ecosystems. Fieldwork is an important part of this stage, with opportunities for students to apply their learning in real-world environments.

GCSE

At GCSE level, we follow the WJEC Eduqas B syllabus. This popular course builds upon the skills learned in Key Stage 3 and is designed to provide a deep understanding of contemporary geographical issues.

The curriculum is structured around key themes such as:

  • Changing Places – Changing Economies: A study of urbanisation, economic development, and global interdependence.

  • Changing Environments: An exploration of natural hazards and the human impact on our planet.

  • Environmental Challenges: An in-depth look at sustainability and resource management.

Fieldwork is a vital component of the GCSE course, with students undertaking investigations in local areas to collect data and conduct primary research. For any students who may require additional support, the department provides targeted planning, one-to-one help, and dedicated revision sessions to ensure they achieve their full potential.
