Law
Law
The course offers an excellent grounding in Law, especially for those who may already have half an eye on a possible legal career. Law is also a subject which is respected by many educational institutions and employers. Studying law combines academic rigour with practical relevance and does not exclude students from studying the subject at degree level.
Together with lessons, there are many ways in which students can learn law. Following current affairs and cases will highlight what is taught in class. To supplement this, court and prison visits have been arranged in the past.

Key Stage 5
The course is structured around four key units that provide a thorough understanding of the legal system and its applications:

-
The Nature of Law and the English Legal System: This unit provides a foundational understanding of the law-making institutions in England and Wales, such as Parliament and the courts. It then explores how disputes are resolved and the roles of key legal professionals, including judges, magistrates, and lawyers.
-
Criminal Law: Students will undertake a detailed study of specific criminal offences, including Murder, Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH), and robbery. The unit also examines various legal defences, such as insanity and intoxication, and teaches students how to apply legal rules to real-world scenarios.
-
Tort: This unit focuses on civil wrongs, exploring particular torts such as negligence, nuisance, and occupier's liability. Students learn to apply legal principles to factual situations to determine liability and responsibility.
-
Human Rights Law: This final unit involves a detailed study of fundamental human rights, including the right to life, liberty, and freedom of expression. Students will also learn about the restrictions placed on these rights and how legal rules are applied to protect them.

This course is ideal for students considering a career in the legal profession, law enforcement, or other related fields, and it provides an excellent academic grounding in the principles that govern our society.
