Religious Education

RE

At King Edward VI High School, our Religious Education (RE) curriculum is designed to help students explore challenging questions about life, purpose, and reality. We believe that understanding different religions and worldviews is crucial for developing respectful, compassionate, and well-rounded individuals. Our curriculum provides a balanced and comprehensive study of various faiths, including Christianity and other principal religions.

Key Stage 3

During Key Stage 3, students have a dedicated weekly lesson in which they study and compare the beliefs, practices, and teachings of a range of religions, including Buddhism, Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, and Sikhism. They also apply their understanding to modern philosophical and moral issues, such as medical ethics, human rights, and prejudice, encouraging critical thinking and informed debate.

GCSE

At GCSE level, we offer the WJEC Eduqas GCSE in Religious Studies. Students can choose to study either a short or full course. Both courses focus on the beliefs, teachings, and practices of Christianity and Buddhism.

  • Short Course: This course covers key topics on Relationships, and Life and Death, including discussions on family, marriage, abortion, and euthanasia.

  • Full Course: The full course provides a more in-depth study, adding topics on Human Rights and Good and Evil.

For students who require additional support, we offer targeted assistance, including one-to-one help and revision sessions, to ensure every student can achieve their full potential.

Enrichment

To enrich our students' learning, we provide opportunities to engage directly with different faiths. This includes inviting guest speakers to the school and arranging visits to local places of worship, allowing students to gain a deeper, first-hand understanding of religious life and practice.
